Description
Vakken is a custom cabinet that was created for a client as part of our bespoke service. The cabinet is not available for purchase, but may serve as a model for a custom piece specially made for you.
The cabinet was designed to accommodate a large flatscreen television, intended for placement in the living room. The client sought something far from a typical TV unit; instead, they envisioned a statement piece that would serve as a bold focal point in the room — something that would effortlessly disguise its function, leaving its true purpose a pleasant surprise.
Vakken is defined by the grid-like arrangement of 16 deep brown mahogany panels set embossed atop the lighter European cherry frame. This composition visually breaks up the large cabinet face into smaller, optically more digestible sections, softening the aesthetic mass of the cabinet and avoiding a bulky and overwhelming presence. Visible mortise-and-tenon, bridle, and box joints across the cabinet are a gentle reminder of the craftsmanship that went into its creation.
In addition to the cabinet, two sets of wall panels in a different but complementary style were made to be placed on the flanks of the cabinet. Together, the ensemble serves as a room divider between the living room and kitchen in the client’s home.
