Features

  • Natural edges and striking flame-like grain figure
  • Original and unique: only one of its kind
  • Salvaged wood from Amsterdam
  • Entirely crafted by hand in Amsterdam

Vlammen is a one-piece solid wood serving board with natural edges and a striking grain figure. It will give your tableware a rough, natural, and dramatic touch. Vlammen, Dutch for ‘flames’, was named after the striking flame-like grain figure in this board.

Unique and handcrafted

Vlammen is a unique and original individual piece, the only one of its kind. It was crafted on a one-off basis by hand using artisanal skills, techniques, and hand tools. No machinery or power tools were used in its crafting.

Wood with a history

The serving board is made out of honey locust salvaged from a tree that once stood in our very own city, Amsterdam, in the Apollolaan to be more precise. The wood was acquired from Stadshout Amsterdam, a foundation dedicated to giving wood from logged Amsterdam trees a second life.

Honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos) is a tree that is native to North America, but is planted in Amsterdam as a city tree. The wood is known to be fairly durable and is appreciated for its beautiful grain figure, as evident in this serving board.

Vlammen is finished with three layers of food-safe pure tung oil.
