Tried this 'Old Friend' a while ago: gin, campari, elderflower liqueur and fresh orange juice (though the original asks for grapefruit juice). On the tart, bitter, and dry side of things initially, but the more you sip, the more you start to taste the sweet notes of elderflower too.

Glimpses of the making process of coat rack Verscheiden. Small pieces of scrapwood can turn into something beautiful and useful when joined together.

Verscheiden is a small coat rack made out of vario

Verscheiden is a small coat rack made out of various types of wood in varying widths. Even the pegs differ in width, thickness, and wood type and this diversity is what the coat rack is actually named for ('Verscheiden' means diverse or various in Dutch). Here it is floating in the hallway of Het Ambachtslab. Can't guarantee it will float in your home...

Details of my (so far) one and only coat rack, 'Verscheiden', made out of 6 different hardwoods. The pegs fit into the board through blind mortise and tenon joints.

Summer is returning to Amsterdam this week and that demands a summery drink. I tried the Southside this time, a cousin of the Mojito that asks for gin, mint leaves, lime juice and sugar syrup. I substituted the lime for lemon here. Cheers!

It's not the first thing that most people think of

It's not the first thing that most people think of when it concerns woodworking, but measuring and marking are an integral part of the craft. This is in fact one of the first things I talk about in my courses.

As you may have seen earlier in my feed (or in the atelier) I have organized my tools not in cabinets, but on panels hanging on the wall. One of these panels is dedicated to my measuring and marking tools. And of course, the panel itself too was made with the help of the very same tools :)

In the process of creating another workbench lamp from leftovers, mainly oak and ash. I just need one more lamp above one of the workbenches and then I'll probably be done with the lighting plan of the atelier. (well, until I get new ideas...)

The salvaged London plane coffee table top I've re

The salvaged London plane coffee table top I've recently been working on is done! Here's a detail of the final state and also a glimpse of the early stage of the making process for comparison. More photos will follow soon!

I'm happy with the result and fortunately so is the customer. The table top was commissioned for a metal frame base that the customer had made herself. Here I've simply put it on another table.

The final step in the making process of this table

The final step in the making process of this table top: applying a coat of finish. I specifically chose a water-based transparant varnish for this project, known to keep the color of the wood close to the original, unfinished state. That was an important criterion in this case.

When applying the finish, the wood looks as if its wet, which is totally logical since the wood will absorb the water in the varnish. However, the water evaporates and the wood assumes its unfinished hue again.

A conifer branch yes, but what conifer? 🌲 I'm becoming better and better at identifying common broadleafs 🌳, but still have to get acquainted with conifers (though I do know the distinctive ones, like pine and lebanon cedar). Anyone recognize this conifer?
